Education, Society and Self-Reliance: A Contemporary Analysis of the Ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and Madan Mohan Malaviya

This research paper presents a contemporary analysis of the ideas of Mahatma Gandhi and Madan Mohan Malaviya on education, society, and self-reliance. Gandhi, through his concept of Nai Talim, proposed a model of education based on labour, self-sufficiency, and moral values, whereas Malaviya viewed education as a means of nation-building, cultural regeneration, and the synthesis of modern knowledge and science.
The study highlights the similarities and differences in their educational philosophies and attempts to evaluate their relevance in the present context marked by globalization, technological advancement, and unemployment. It concludes that the ideas of self-reliance, morality, and society-oriented education continue to play a vital role in strengthening the Indian education system.
