Indian subcontinent's trade and commerce flourished due to the extensive network of trade routes that connected it to other regions such as Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and the Mediterranean. The guild system played a crucial role in this era. Guild systems were crucial for regulating trade and crafts, encouraging specialization, and ensuring quality control. Although coins were used, bartering was common in rural areas. The caste system in India had a significant effect on economic activities, job roles, and social hierarchies.
