Abstract

The Indian society is currently undergoing a phase of rapid transformation. Traditional values, which have long formed the foundation of social life, are now changing under the influence of globalization, modernization, technological advancement, and consumerist culture. This transformation has not only affected the social structure but has also challenged the very concept of moral values and their practical application. Moral values are the fundamental standards that guide the behavior of individuals and society. Family, religion, education, culture, and traditions play a crucial role in the creation and preservation of these values.

However, in a transitional society, while the hold of traditional values is loosening, new values are emerging. This situation points towards a conflict of values and a moral dilemma. This research paper presents an in-depth analysis of the status of moral values in the transitional Indian society, their challenges, changes, and potential. It examines how moral values have been the soul of Indian society and continue to be indispensable in maintaining social harmony, cooperation, and human dignity. At the same time, it emphasizes that in changing times, these values need to be redefined so that they remain relevant to the requirements of the modern era while staying connected to their roots.
