Abstract

In Eastern Uttar Pradesh, rural development is primarily dependent on agriculture; however, small and cottage industries also play a significant role in this region. These industries utilize local raw materials to generate employment and help reduce rural unemployment. Small industries such as handloom weaving, knitting, clay and wooden products, and the sugar industry ensure women’s empowerment and skill development. These industries serve as sources of income generation for rural people and connect rural products with urban markets. As a result, the standard of rural living improves and migration decreases. Thus, small and cottage industries are instrumental in strengthening the rural economy of Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
